Karnataka Theological College offers three different theological courses, viz. BD, C.Th and Dip CS. While BD is a regular and residential full time course, C.Th and Dip CS course are external studies.
Karnataka Theological College offers the following internal courses of the Senate of Serampore College (University):
4 year B.D. Degree in both Kannada and English medium. Basic qualification: a degree from a recognized University.
5 year B.D. Degree (basic qualification: PUC or +2 class) in Kannada Medium
The BD degree programme is the basic theological programme of the Senate of Serampore College (University). The BD programme is meant to prepare theological graduates who are competent and articulate in theological discourses, as well as mature in Christian spirituality when it comes to its core expressions like discipleship, transformed life-style, prayer, preaching, sharing the hope we have in Christ, pastoral care and counseling. It is intended to instill and cultivate good moral values and life-style in the lives of the students. Character building is also an essential part of theological education. The degree programme attempts to inculcate a sense of commitment and integrity in the students. The BD degree programme is a theological training programme for social transformation.
Christian ministry involves the whole body of Christ and serves all sections of human society. Therefore theological education has to be extended to the whole people of God for its mission in the world. It has to be oriented towards equipping all Church members for the ministry in various forms so that they may practice their faith particularly in their secular profession / vocation and participate in the process of social change. The Courses are designed to provide the whole people of God with academic skills for an in-depth understanding of Christian faith, history, doctrine and practical dimensions of ministry so as to enable them to interact with their neighbours and professional colleagues in their common quest for meaning of life. The courses are intended to integrate theological education with the professional orientation of the candidates. The objectives of the Extension programme are:
to equip the whole people of God for Mission
to provide tools for interpreting the word of God in a pluralistic society
to create critical consciousness and openness to analyze cultural, socio-economic, political and ecclesiastical values
to enable persons to become effective witnesses in the context of their varied and diversified ministries
to promote theological education as a transforming influence in personal and societal life.
Through its Department of Theological Studies by Extension the Karnataka Theological College offers the following non-residential courses in Kannada through correspondence and seminars.
Prospectus and application form can be obtained by sending Rs. 300/- by M.O. or Account Transfer to the College. Application for admission must be sent in the prescribed form not later 31st December every year for BD Course. Last date for C. Th. and Dip. C.S. Courses October 10 every year.
Candidates will be informed of the date for the Entrance Examinations in due course. Those who appear the Entrance Examinations will be required to appear for a personal interview by the Faculty of the College for BD Course.
