The Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies and Gender Concerns Rev. Gracy Christina Mary took the leadership of offering a two-credit interdisciplinary course on Human Sexuality (BTE 51) of the Senate of Serampore College (University) from 25 th to 30 th August 2025. The course was offered by the department of National Ecumenical Forum for Gender and Sexuality of the National Council of Churches in India(NCCI). The resource persons were Rev. Dr. Deva Jyothi Kumar and Rev. Ribin.
The course addressed human sexuality from biblical, historical, doctrinal, ethical, pastoral, and counseling perspectives, using lectures, interactive youth dialogues, interactions with Transpersons, positive parenting sessions, films, and student short film making. Students were assessed through class work, participation, book reviews, and project work.
On 30th August 2025, the Department organized a special session for the faculty members on the theme of “Human Sexuality and Queer Theology.” The session was led by Rev. Dr. Deva Jyothi Kumar, who provided critical insights into theological engagement with contemporary concerns of gender and sexuality.
The program included an interactive segment, during which faculty members raised and discussed key questions for reflection. The session concluded with the Response, Closing Prayer, and Benediction by Rev. Dr. H. M. Watson, Principal, KTC.
This faculty-level session highlighted the importance of continuous theological engagement with issues of sexuality, gender justice, and inclusivity within academic and ministerial formation.
