KTC First Semester Retreat
Fri Sep 19 2025

The Karnataka Theological College First Semester Retreat was held on 19 September 2025 at the KTC Chapel. The retreat began with a Holy Communion service led by Rev. K. Sagar Sundar Raj, KTC Chaplain. Rt. Rev. Timothy Ravinder, Bishop of CSI Coimbatore Diocese, was the guest speaker for the retreat. Rt. Rev. Hemachandra Kumar, Bishop of CSI Karnataka Southern Diocese, also joined the communion service. Bishop Timothy’s message on “Denying Oneself” set the tone for the retreat. Students from the Manipur and CSI Coimbatore dioceses presented a special musical rendition, adding to the devotional atmosphere. In his first session, Bishop Timothy reflected on Service/Seva from Biblical times to the contemporary context. He emphasised that through service, both the giver and the receiver are mutually transformed. Christian Service, he highlighted, is not mere philanthropy but is deeply rooted in theology and mission. In his second session, he spoke on “The Joy in Seva”, encouraging students to embrace service as a joyful calling. He concluded by stating that we are called to serve, and this we should do with joy. Students also led the singing sessions between the talks. Towards the end of the retreat, the revised version of the Basel Mission Hymnbook was dedicated by Bishop Timothy Ravinder. Rev. Dr. H. M. Watson acknowledged the immense efforts of Rev. Dr. F. Anilkumar in translating German hymns and taking up the responsibility of enlarging the entire hymnbook. This was followed by the release of the second volume of the KTC Journal. The Editor, Rev. Gracy C. Mary, presented the books, which were dedicated by Bishop Timothy. Rev. Dr. Sandeep Theophil delivered the Vote of Thanks, after which Rev. Grace C. Mary led the closing prayer. The retreat concluded with the Benediction pronounced by Bishop Timothy Ravinder. The retreat was a time of spiritual renewal, reflection, and fellowship, leaving a deep impact on the students and faculty alike. The community then gathered for a fellowship meal and spent the rest of the day in silent meditation.
